Colgate Connect
Quick start Guide
Before you begin, let’s make sure you’ve got the device you need. The hum smart toothbrushes and the hum app are compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, as well as most of the Android devices.
You’ll also need iOS 15.0 or later or Android 6.0 or later to download the hum app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store
We also wanted to give you a heads up that Colgate prioritizes development for the mobile platforms most people use and may decide to end support on some operating systems to continue creating new features and improve our customer experience for the wider audience.
We’re here to help you set up and use your new hum toothbrush so you can start becoming a brush boss.
Setting up your Colgate Connect app
- Download the latest version of the Colgate Connect app
- Turn your hum toothbrush on and tap Connect brush now! Then follow the steps to pair it.
- Enter your name and preferred email, which will become your Colgate Connect account. Doing this allows you to personalize your experience, get tailored brushing guidance, save your progress, and rack up smile points that you can redeem in the Colgate store.
- You have a few different choices to sign up with: with your email, with Apple, or with Google
- You’re ready to get brushing!

Before you begin
To connect your hum toothbrush, you’ll need to download the Colgate Connect App on compatible devices. Please make sure that:
- Your device Bluetooth is on
- Your device is connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network
- Your hum toothbrush is paired
- You’ve created your Colgate Connect profile
Pairing your toothbrush (if not during onboarding)
- Open the App
- In the Home page, tap the toothbrush icon at top left to start the pairing process
- Follow the guide to wake up your toothbrush and a pop-up will appear telling you that a connected toothbrush has been detected
- Click ‘Yes, connect my toothbrush’
- If you and your family members have multiple hum toothbrushes at home, the app may not detect the one you want to use. When you are not able to find yours, tap “blink” in the toothbrush list to make the status light blink
Don’t see your toothbrush?
If your toothbrush is near but not appearing in the list, it may be because:
- It’s in standby mode
- It has low battery
- It is already connected to another device
This typically occurs because the connection just needs to be reset. Try disabling Bluetooth for a few seconds and then turn it back on. Then press the power button of your toothbrush for 10 seconds, deactivate the Bluetooth, or forget the toothbrush on the other device. Your toothbrush should then show up on the list. swer here
With colgate, you don’t have to have the app open to enjoy the perks. The Colgate smart toothbrush tracks your progress on or offline because the brush’s handle itself is packed with 3D sensors that know exactly where you are brushing your teeth. It then stores that data between syncs. Just make sure to sync your brush with the app regularly to continue getting the personalized brushing guidance that the app provides.
To synchronize your brushing:
- First make sure your Colgate Connect app is paired with your device
- Open the Colgate Connect app and enable the Bluetooth of your device
- When your Colgate toothbrush is connected, your offline brushing sessions will be synchronized with the app automatically and recorded in the app
Once your offline brushings are synchronized with the app, you’ll receive a pop up summarizing the brushing sessions you did offline. You can view all your brushings in the Frequency Chart or on the home page of the app in "latest brushing session.”
In the brushing check-up, it indicates the date and time of your offline brushing, the surface coverage and duration.
Any brushing sessions less than 10 seconds will not be saved by the Colgate toothbrush or app in order to avoid any accidental recordings.
To get the most out of all that Colgate has to offer, we recommend synching your brush with your app weekly and charging your brush regularly.
Did you know the Colgate Connect app is compatible with the Apple Health app? Because oral care is an important part of your health, you can add your toothbrushing data into your Apple Health app so you can view all your health progress in one convenient place. You can always revoke permission at any time.
What you’ll need
To set up and use the Colgate Connect app with Apple Health, you’ll need an iPhone with iOS 13 or later.
The brushing records are sent to the Apple Health app only when they are processed with the Colgate Connect app.
To enable Apple Health App integration
- Open the Colgate Connect app and select the Home tab
- Tap your Profile icon in the bottom-right corner then select Profile settings
- Find the section GET MOST OUT OF YOUR DATA and enable Apple healthkit

To protect your hygiene, dental professionals recommend changing your brush head every three months, keeping your toothbrush healthy and clean.
With hum, you will be able to easily track when it is time to replace your brush head and order refill heads within the app or wherever hum is sold.
Brush head condition and reset counter
You can check the condition of your toothbrush head in the toothbrush settings, where you can see when you last replaced your brush head.
The date is first defaulted for the first time you connect your toothbrush with the app, but you can reset the counter at any time (ideally whenever you replace your brush head.)
Within the toothbrush settings, you’ll find a helpful gauge that indicates the usage of your brush head: 0% means the brush head hasn’t been used yet and 100% means you’ve used the brush head for more than 250 minutes of brushing time (=3 months of use).
The brush head condition can be:
- Good → Changed recently
- Getting older → More than half-used
- Replace now → Used more than recommended
We’ll send you a notification to remind you when it’s time to renew the brush head.
When you change the toothbrush head, remember to tap the Reset counter!
You can change your preferences from the settings menu of your app where you’ll be able to edit your first name, birthday, country and some other personal information. You’ll also have the option to manage sounds, weekly reviews, and notifications.
To access these settings:
- Open the Colgate Connect app
- Tap the tab with your name
- Tap profile settings
In some cases, you might need to unpair your toothbrush from the Colgate Connect App in order to get things synced up again.
Disconnect your toothbrush
- Open the Colgate Connect App
- From the home page, tap the toothbrush icon in the top-left status bar
- Select “Forget this toothbrush, please!” at the bottom of the screen
- Confirm that you want to unpair the toothbrush pressing "Forget toothbrush"
Once your toothbrush has been unpaired, you can connect it with another device or connect a new toothbrush with your Colgate Connect app.

Activities
Colgate Connect's guided brushing makes better oral care a no-brainer, helping you improve your oral health day after day by guiding you through a brushing method approved by oral health professionals.
With this feature, you’ll get real-time coaching during your brushing session where the 3D jaw model will indicate—live—which areas need extra attention among the 16 zones of your teeth. You’ll also get suggestions on your brushing movements, angle, and speed. On the other hand, if you are a hum smart rhythm user you will have the possibility to have the guided brushing, but contrary to the other brushes the feedback made during the brushing will not be live. The check-up at the end of the brushing will simply inform you of the duration of the brushing. For optimal results, we recommend that you keep your phone at eye level for this activity.
At the center of the screen, the percentage indicates the surface brushed for the active zone, meaning the zone that you are currently brushing.
Once an area is properly brushed, the progress indicator in the center will show "100%" and the zone will become colored in white. The next zone is then highlighted and becomes the active zone. This will continue until all zones are clean, helping you reach every last bit of plaque.
Note: in case you spend too much time in a given zone, Guided brushing will move to the next one, even if you don't reach 100% in order to prevent potentially damaging your gums.
Live progress bar
Below the 3D jaw there is a live progress bar representing all of your 16 zones brushing outcome in particular colours .
- Light orange: zones that you missed or haven’t yet brushed
- White: zones where you achieved 100% coverage. Good job!
- Orange: zones that you need to brush, which eventually turns to white (clean) or light orange (missed).
